Just imagine instead of taking a dream vacation once in a lifetime as so many people do, you take a couple dream vacations a year.

You know there's nothing like the feeling you have on your last day of work before a big vacation. It's tough to keep your mind on work when you're having visions of walking on a beach in Fiji, scuba diving on the Great Barrier Reef, snow skiing in the Alps, fly-fishing in the Canadian Rockies, sailing the islands of the Caribbean, golfing in California, hunting in Africa, bargain shopping in Istanbul's ancient Bazaars, dining in the Tuscany region of Italy, tasting wine in Napa Valley, or strolling through the gardens of an English castle at dusk and breathing in the cool honeysuckle-scented air.

Once you discover the secret I'll share, and take advantage of it, you'll have the key to unlock the treasure chest of huge discounts previously only available to people in the travel industry.

Who are these people? Travel agents of course. Because travel agents travel extensively and use their personal experiences to inspire others to do the same, travel suppliers create industry discount programs and special privileges designed to encourage travel agents to learn about their facilities.

Travel agents have access to the best trips available and now you can have the same access even if you don't want to work as a full-time travel agent.

One of the benefits of becoming a travel agent are the "fam trips." A fam trip is travel industry jargon that stands for "Familiarization Trip". Fam trips are highly discounted vacations that travel agents go on to familiarize themselves with resorts and cruise lines. Fam trips can be as low as $100 for an all inclusive vacation, and sometimes they're free as you'll see below. These trips are generally discounted between 50 to 90 percent off of what non-travel agents pay.

Sometimes these huge discounts are made possible by the governments of the countries you visit. Why would governments help pay for your trip? Because they want to promote tourism to their country. 

Just imagine you could go on a 4-day trip to beautiful Playa Del Carmen, Mexico and stay at an all-inclusive 5-Star Resort. With one fam trip that was available you could have bought the same trip online from a discount travel source for just $1,048. Or, when you become a travel agent you could have enjoyed it for just $480. And yes, that price included airfare! You and a traveling companion would have saved over $1000 on this one trip alone. If you take more than one trip a year your savings would be even greater!

Not only do travel agents get huge discounts with these fams, but they also yet treated like royalty because the fam providers want the travel agents to refer business to them. They won't do that unless they are absolutely thrilled with their vacation.

Besides fam trips, you'll get other great "job perks" when you become a travel agent.  Here is a brief overview of some of them that you can now have too:

1. Hotel Discounts - Hotels offer travel agents discounts at half off or even higher. All travel agents have to do is to call the hotel and ask if they offer any discount prices for agents. In addition, travel agents can ask for room upgrades. Imagine being upgraded from a standard room to a penthouse suite. It happens!
2. Car Rental Discounts - Many car rental agencies offer discounted prices to travel agents.  Sometimes they offer agents an upgrade to a more expensive car class. You wouldn't mind driving a nice convertible or SUV instead of your usual compact or intermediate car would you?
3. Free First Class Airline Upgrades - Many airlines will upgrade travel agents to first class if there are empty seats in first class. All you have to do is ask.
4. Luxury Cruises - Travel agents get huge discounts on cruises all over the world. You can take cruises for as little as $40 a day. Of course, that includes your room, meals, and on-ship entertainment. You can't travel much cheaper than that!
5. Commissions - Agents earn commissions on most of their own personnel travel, even at agent rates!
6. Free Or Discounted Admissions to Shows, Theme Parks, Helicopter Rides, Snow Skiing, Wax Museums And Other Tourist Attractions - Travel agents can ask for discounts almost anywhere and quite often get significant discounts or other benefits. To get these discounts, travel agents go to the Guest Relations, Group or Administration office or window so they also don't have to stand in public lines. Discounts range from 10% to 50% or more, and some may be extended to others traveling with them.

You can become a home-based Independent Travel Agent and you’ll receive the same benefits as travel agents that sit in a travel agency 8 hours a day even if all you do is help your friends and family take trips.

Save Money On Business Travel Too

If you're a small business owner who travels, you already know that you don't have the same travel resources available to you as a billion dollar corporation. They have the power to negotiate large discounts with major hotel chains and car rental agencies.

But as a small business owner it's even more important for you to save money wherever you can. Since you don't have the influence to negotiate discounts, why not become a travel agent and get the discounts travel agents get?

If you have employees, each one of them that travels could be their own travel agent. Not only can they get their rooms for half-price or more, but being a travel agent would also be an employee perk. When they become a travel agent, they can upgrade to nicer hotel rooms and rental cars.

One automotive marketing company in North Carolina provides their 400 employees with travel agent cards. According to it's founder, "We've saved an enormous amount of money with them, somewhere in the tens of thousands of dollars." The companies' founder said that after he signed up as an agent, his company began saving on hotels and car rentals so he signed up his entire sales staff and consultants. "Every one of our people are using the card," the founder said. "They'd be foolish not to."

When you become a travel agent you may even write off your trips as a business expense. Of course, you'll be traveling for professional education purposes to learn about new destinations. As the independent travel agent you will be, you are an independent contractor operating your own business from your home or office. Therefore, you may even be able to deduct telephone and other expenses.

All you have to do to become a travel agent is to fill out a simple application form.

Soon thereafter, you'll receive your agent identification card and your travel agent training.  As a new agent you'll immediately be eligible for discounts and upgrades on hotel rooms, car rentals and cruise ships.

Use the Resources That Travel Agents Use

When you become a travel agent you'll be able to take advantage of the same resources as any other travel agent. One of my favorites is the FREE weekly Travel Agent magazine. It's only available to people in the travel industry (you can't buy it even if you want to). Once you become a travel agent, you'll be able to sign up for your free subscription too.

TravelAgent magazine will make you much more knowledgeable about the travel industry and traveling. It will give you what you need to know to make your trips easier, safer, cheaper, and more fun. 

But the best part of Travel Agent magazine is that you'll be introduced to great travel destinations around the world.  The "Destinations" section gives you updated tourism information about destinations around the world. It tells you...

  ...basic information you want to know about a destination.
  ...about special packages available.
  ...information about the best accommodations.
  ...which lodging, transportation, and tour companies are offering discounts.
  ...about hotels that have been renovated.
  ...the overall positives about a destination.
  ...who has been voted "the best" in their category at a destination.
  ...which websites to visit to get more information.

Even if you only travel once or twice a year, it's still fun to read about what's happening around the world. And every month or so Travel Agent includes a special insert that covers in detail some specific destination like their recent Caribbean & Bahamas Montserrat Revival issue.

One of the great things about becoming a travel agent is that sometimes you get to travel for free. From time to time you'll also be introduced to totally free travel deals available only to travel agents. Why do travel organizations offer free travel? They know that if they can get travel agents to come and see them, that the agents will tell other people about them. That means more business for them.

And when your wined-and-dined like royalty on these trips, you can't help but share your experience with your friends and family. And when you do, they'll want to know how you did it. What's great is that you'll actually be able to earn more free travel and make money by telling your friends and family how to travel like you do. More on that later.
